Is the course approved by CITB/ECS/CSCS?

As an approved City & Guilds Training Provider, our course is approved by CITB and CSCS as a recommended Level 1 Award. Note that CSCS and CITB no longer approve new alternative courses to the recommended level 1 award INFO

Candidates applying for site cards will also be required to have passed a CITB or ECS HSE Test - for CITB Labourer Cards this is an in classroom test that we recommend booking direct though CITB.

For ECS HSE test, learninglounge.com is an approved provider, and we can book the online ECS HSE Test on behalf of our registered students.

Who is this course for?


Our level 1 H&S course provides the essential Health & Safety training to enable people to be on-site and carry out fundamental construction work.


It can be used to support site cards, for example the CSCS Labourer/Green Card. Here is a full list of site cards that recommend this City & Guilds Qualification.


It can also be used as a stand-alone (without exam) as a site safety induction.


There are no knowledge prerequisites to do this course, and the age range is 16 and above. 

Accessibility arrangements


As an online course, the content comprises video and text. If closed captions are required, then we recommend using your internet browsers automatic caption generation.


The course is only available in English, the exam is available in Welsh and English.

Recommended devices and internet browsers


Although the course will work on most phones, we strongly recommend studying on devices with a screen sizes of at least 10 inches or above to get the best learning experience.


Although the course will work on most internet browsers, our recommended browsers should you encounter any issues are Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

How to book your exam


If your course includes the formal C&G exam then you must past the final assessment of the course with a score of 80%. As this is the same pass mark as the exam, we strongly recommend passing with scores above 90% and repeating this 2 to 3 times to help ensure you successfully pass the online assessment.

Please list the exam required as the subject line, and confirm your registered learninglounge.com email address (if contacting us via a different email).


To register your City and Guilds exam we require the following information:


  • Full Name (As per Photo ID)
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender

If your package is inclusive of the ECS, Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Unit Assessment we will also require the following addition details:

  • Title (Mr/Mrs/Miss etc..)
  • National Insurance Number
  • Head and Shoulders Photo ('Passport Style', neutral background and expression) 
    • - Note: not a photo of your passport photo
  • A photo/copy of your Photo ID (Passport, Drivers License or previous ECS card)

For both tests your photoID will be needed to confirm your identity. 

  • For C&G exams, the invigilator will request to see your ID via the Webcam. 
  • For the AI invigilated ECS assessment, you will be prompted in the instructions when to present your ID to the webcam.

Ordering your site card


Every card provider will have their own system of ordering cards, for example, ECS use the MyECS system. Usually there is an option to upload your formal qualification e-certificate as evidence of your training. We will email you your e-Cert as soon as it is available from City & Guilds, this is usually after 24 hours from the time of passing the exam.
